Wedding planning hints and tips

The majority of weddings are 18 months in the planning and whilst this sounds like a long time, believe us when we say that this will fly by and your big day will be here before you know it. To avoid too many last-minute panics we have compiled a countdown to a wedding day with all the things you need to plan, arrange and book.

18 Months to Go

It’s time to sit down with your other half and discuss the kind of day you want. Geographic location, church or civil ceremony, sit-down meal or BBQ, that type of thing should be decided early on.
This is when the budget of your wedding should be discussed as well.

12 Months to Go

Now is the time to set the date and get visiting wedding venues. We know a great website to help you find the perfect venue..!
Once you have booked the venue, decide how many people are coming to your wedding and perhaps send out a save the date card to everyone.
Decide who will be your Best Man and ushers, bridesmaids, maid of honour etc and ask them if they are willing.
Now is the time to arrange your wedding licence with a registrar and book the time of the wedding.
Photographers get booked up a year in advance especially in the busy summer wedding season so our advice is to book your photographer ASAP.
Brides – start looking for your dream wedding dress now. It could take a while and some shops like at least 9 months or so to get your dress ready.
Grooms – get looking at suits and decide whether to hire or buy.

9 Months to Go

Time to get down to detail. Think about your colour scheme and go to some wedding fairs. These are a fantastic way of finding wedding suppliers under one roof and for generally getting styling tips and ideas.
Book your caterers, florists and order your wedding cake (remember to sample plenty before choosing!).
Order your stationary (invitations, table plan, thank you cards).
Brides – start thinking of how you will have your hair and make-up. Do you need to book a hairdresser and make-up artist for the day? Do it soon.

6 Months to Go

Book transport to and from the venue for the wedding party. Choose bridesmaid dresses and accessories and usher’s outfits.
Some brides can have their first dress fitting now.
Choose your readings/poems/music/DJ.
Book the honeymoon!

3 Months to Go

Send out the invitations!
Buy the wedding rings.
Finalise your seating plan and decide on table decorations.

2 Months to Go

If you are having a gift list at a department store then now is the time to go and choose your items.
Finalise your menus.
Confirm all bookings – DJ, florist, caterers, hotels, cars etc

1 Month to Go (Gulp!)

Brides need to have their final dress fittings now.
Have hen and stag dos well in advance of the big day!
Round up your ushers and bridesmaids and discuss their duties on the day.
Start writing place cards and putting together favours  - this is the sort of thing many brides and grooms end up doing the day before the wedding so don’t be one of them!

1 Week to Go!

Pack for the honeymoon!
Final hair and make-up rehearsals
Buy thank you gifts for the wedding party and Mums etc.
The Day Before the Big Day
Hold the wedding rehearsal.
Have the cake delivered.
Do any last minute pampering (manicures, pedicures, massage).
And breathe – you did it. The most important thing is that you two are getting married in the morning. Forget about all the little details now and just enjoy your day!
